Building Scenario Libraries for Fintech Operations

A short library of believable disruptions beats a long list of theatrical disasters. Focus on paths that actually threaten critical services.

Scenario libraries grow stale when teams chase novelty. Fintech operations benefit more from repeating a handful of high-likelihood paths: primary cloud region impairment, payment rail degradation, identity vendor outage, and key-person unavailability during peak volume.

For each scenario, name the important business service affected, the first observable symptom, and the decision that must be made within the first hour.

Rotate ownership of exercise facilitation so knowledge does not sit with one resilience specialist. After each run, capture what failed in communications as carefully as what failed in systems.

Retire scenarios that no longer map to your architecture. A living library of eight scenarios used quarterly outweighs forty unread ones.
